আমি আর আমার ওয়াইফ দুইজনই একই ইউনিভার্সিটিতে FALL 23 তে ফুল ফান্ডেড পিএইচডি করতে যাচ্ছি F-1 ভিসা হোল্ডার হিসেবে। দুজনের একই ভার্সিটিতে ম্যাচ করানো ভালই কঠিন কাজ, কিন্তু অসম্ভব কিছু না। শুধু বুয়েটের আমার ছোট ইইই ‘বি’ সেকশনের চারজন ক্লাসমেট তাদের ওয়াইফ এর সাথে যাচ্ছে একই ইউনিভার্সিটিতে দুজনই F-1 হিসেবে (UMD, USC, Purdue, UTD), আর সেকশনের একজন কাপল একই স্টেটে (UMD+GMU)। তো, আমার মতে, যদি আপনি ক্যাপেবল হন, সঠিকভাবে প্ল্যান করতে পারেন আর অবশ্যই লাক ফেভার করে, তাহলে আপনার পক্ষেও এটা করা সম্ভব। আমি এই পোস্টে কিভাবে প্ল্যানিংটা করা উচিত আর কিসব মিস্টেক এভয়েড করা উচিত সেটা নিয়ে বলার চেস্টা করবো। এছাড়াও আমার পুরো এক্সপেরিয়েন্সটা শেয়ার করবো Admission Experience, GRE, IELTS, CV, LOR, SOP, Probable Timeline এবং Costing নিয়ে। আমি এসবের জন্য যেসব ম্যাটেরিয়ালসের প্রয়োজন পড়তে পারে, সেগুলোও ইন ডিটেলস বলার চেস্টা করেছি যাতে সদ্য গ্র‍্যাজুয়েটদের সুবিধা হয়। লেখাটা শুধু আমার পারস্পেকটিভে লেখা, সবার জন্য প্রযোজ্য নাও হতে পারে।

How should you maximize your chances as a couple?

First suggestion: Your first choice as a couple should be living together & studying in the same university. If that is not possible, living together & studying in two different universities in close proximity. While choosing universities, choose states where there are multiple universities in close range. You must be aware that because two universities are in same state, does not mean they are close. Again, your states can be different, but universities can be close. For example, Columbia university and University of Buffalo are both in New York state, but their distance is around 400 miles (7 hour driving distance). Whereas Stevens Institute of Technology is in New Jersey, but the distance between Stevens and Columbia is only 8 miles. So, use google maps to have an idea of distance. If you are choosing only one university from a state, then make sure that that university is not a far shot for any one of you. You can not choose two universities that are far apart. Google maps can be helpful in this regard. [Note, at my time, ChatGPT was not still a thing. But I found out that ChatGPT can be helpful in this case. But remember they do print out a lot of wrong information.]
